Original Watercolour of Dunwich showing the now lost All Saints Church.
This beautiful watercolour shows a beautiful piece of Suffolk History. The artist has captured the All Saints Church in Dunwich, a significant Anglo Saxon port town. All Saints Church as shown in this painting would have been during the 1800’s or earlier. The church like most of Dunwich was lost to costal erosion in 1904. Early photos indicate the church in a ruined state long before this time. Folk law and poetry say you can still hear the bells of the lost church at sea.
We can’t date this watercolour or identify the artist.
Condition: The frame is in poor condition with a missing back. I have put the watercolour in the frame for illustrative purposes. The frame would either need a new back or replacing. The frame has kept the watercolour from any damage and it shows no signs of discolouration, water damage or fading.
