Christ Church - West, Looking North from St. Aldate's from "The Fifty Water Colours Drawings of Oxford" c1900
Christ Church, the great foundation of Cardinal Wolsey, was re-constructed by King Henry VIII, who in 1546 brought hither from Osney Abbey his newly founded bishopric, and thus created an institution probably without parallel the combination of a Cathedral see with academic society.
