The poetry that is attached to the image says: “Ah, my Beloved, fill the Cup that clears TO-DAY of past Regrets and future Fears – To-morrow? – Why, To-morrow I may be Myself with Yesterday’s Sev’n Thousand Years”.

The poem of The Rubáiyát of Omar depicts a simple man who finds solace by escaping into material pleasures, and treats the universal and ageless themes of doubt, fear, and regret.

About the artist: Charles Robinson (1870-1937) was an English born artist and illustrator and was a prolific book illustrator. Studying at the Royal Academy Charles Robinson went on to have a career as one of the finest illustrators of his day, Illustrating many other famous titles such as Alice in Wonderland, Grimm’s Fairy Tales and The Secret Garden. Robinson is still respected as one of the finest illustrators of his time.
